anon adding contact info
June 08, 2007, 08:32:28 am
I'm trying to figure out how an anonymous user can add herself as a volunteer, to the email list, or otherwise provide contact information without registering as a user.  The drupal user registration process requires a username, which is irrelevant to this site since they won't ever be logging back in and are simply adding info to our list.
This seems like it would be easy to do, but I haven't found it.  Currently, an anon user can access CiviCRM, access all custom data, and add contacts.
Alternatively, if there were a way to turn off the username field from user registration, that would work.

Thanks, naturally that's where I started.  But every attempt results in a "non-recoverable error; profile not configured" error, even though the profile is set to "used for" in User Registration, View/Edit User Registration, and Profile.

Which version of CiviCRM are you using? Drupal or Joomla?

Can you please describe more closely when are you getting the error? Also, if you could paste exact error message here - we have two similar error messages ("Profile is not configured for the selected action." and "This profile is not configured for the requested action. Contact the site administrator if you need assistance.").

Thx,
m

Sorry, dismiss "Drupal or Joomla" question above. :-)

The error message is the following:
Code: [Select]
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

This profile is not configured for the requested action. Contact the site administrator if you need assistance.
I get this whenever an anonymous user tries to submit contact information, either through using a direct link to a profile (<site root>/civicrm/profile/create?reset=1&gid=3) or a stand-alone form based on the profile.  I'm essentially trying to bypass the Drupal User Registration process, since there's not going to be a way for visitors to "log in" or anything, and instead I'm just trying to get their info.

I did notice a strange thing - the information being submitted to the form made it through, but the form would resolve to the error.  Giving a redirect URL in the end worked fine.  Weird, right?
