Standalone form for profile "Could not find valid value for gid" error in IE7
July 12, 2008, 08:33:31 pm
OK, so here's a weird one that I believe I've verified on the official demo. I am getting a "Could not find valid value for gid" non-recoverable error when trying to submit a standalone form (from a profile) by hitting the "enter/return" key in Internet Explorer 7.

Here are the steps:
-- Set up profile in CiviCRM (one field, e-mail, see profile ID 6 at the demo if it's still there: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/uf/group?reset=1)
-- Hit "standalone form" link to get the standalone form code.
-- Copy and paste standalone form code to a new HTML file (http://tools.ipa.org/civ_test.html)
-- Load up the standalone form page in Internet Explorer 7
-- Type an e-mail address into the field
-- Hit the return/enter key on your keyboard
-- Goes to the CiviCRM demo page with the "Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred. Could not find valid value for gid" error

Actually clicking the "Save" button causes the form to be submitted successfully ("Thank you. Your information has been saved. ").

Either method works fine in Firefox.

Weird, huh? I don't know what could be causing this, I've tried a number of different iterations with the markup.

Jesse - I don't have easy access to an IE7 machine (altho can try it on Wed when I'm in a friend's office). I'd try pulling all the unnecessary things out of the form and see if you can get it to work. Maybe start by removing the Cancel button ?? I'd also experiment w/ replacing the & char entities with plain ampersands in the form post action=...

I didn't see this post until now. I did try experimenting with those aspects, and was unable to get a form that both a) submitted to the right place and b) submitted upon hitting "return" key

Can you try this on the 2.1 Sandbox - and post a link for us to test the standalone form here?

http://sandbox.civicrm.org

Not sure if we'll be able to figure it out - but worth a try.
