Exporting contacts with a custom field returns all contacts

I'm using CiviCRM 1.7. Everything works fine when I export contacts using regular fields as a filter. However when I filter on at least one custom field, things go wrong.

Let's say I have 300 contacts in total and my search results would be 14 contacts. When I do the advanced search and select the "all 14 records" option, and then export to csv, I get a csv file with all 300 contacts. However when I select those 14 contacts and then choose "selected records only", I do get only the 14 records.

I search the fora and bug reports on this but didn't find an answer. Did anyone experience the same thing? How did you solve it? Any help or tips are much appreciated.

i remember fixes a few issues in past versions about some tasks (including export) not following the search values. Its been quite a few months, and i dont remember the exact issue/fixes. you might want to do  a search on the issue queue

I already searched the queue but didn't find what I need. I thought http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-1969 was it but when I looked at the changesets for 1.7 I already had those:
 * http://fisheye.civicrm.org/changelog/CiviCRM?cs=9823
 * http://fisheye.civicrm.org/changelog/CiviCRM?cs=9865

Do you happen to remember a couple of keywords that could get me to the appropriate ticket?

This is a confirmation that this also happens for creating smart groups, but that even the trick with selecting each individual contact does not work: it always enters all contacts, not just the ones from the result.

*Update* The trick doesn't work because apparently smart groups are created based on the original query. I found this bit of information in http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-1878.

So I really need to find a way to fix the original query.

I think I've searched through every ticket that has anything remotely to do with this but I didn't find a solution in there so I created a new issue: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3329.

You will need to reproduce this on our sandbox server (http://sandbox.civicrm.org/).
