Adding Multiple Custom Data Groups to a Tab
July 15, 2008, 09:06:54 am
Hi all,

I'm using Joomla/Civicrm and I need to allow my administrators to add up to 5 files for each contact.  But this can't go on the Contact Summary Page.  So I created a Custom Data Group using Tab style, but since it doesn't support multiple file uploads in the same Data Group, I need to be able to do one of two things:

1.  Can I add more than one Custom Data Group to a Tab, and how?
2.  Can I create a Custom Data Group that functions like the "Additional Location" field set, where additional data groups can be added as needed?
3.  Is there any other way to group 5 file upload data sets together on anything other than the Summary Page?

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you,

Maia Siber

I wasn't aware that there was a limitation on "multiple File-type custom fields in a custom data group". What version of CiviCRM are you using? Is there a specific error or warning you're seeing? Can you recreate this on the public (Drupal) demo? http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal

**I also noticed that if I fill all 5 file uploads, they successfully upload, but this same error comes up:

warning: rename(,/var/www/drupal.demo.civicrm.org/public/sites/drupal.demo.civicrm.org/files/civicrm/custom//) [function.rename]: No such file or directory in /var/www/drupal.civicrm.org/public/sites/drupal.demo.civicrm.org/modules/civicrm/CRM/Core/BAO/File.php on line 115.

Looks like there's a bug w/ the multiple files scenarios (when all of them in the form aren't required / uploaded). We're looking at it and will post back.

A bug report has been posted on our issue tracker - and you can follow it there:
http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3327

The fix will be made for 2.1 - but you may be able to backport. We'll know more once the fix is made.

maia:

can you try reproducing this on our sandbox machine: http://sandbox.civicrm.org/ (this is running v2.1)

I've cleaned up the file upload code and seems to work nicely in 2.1. just want to ensure i'm not missing anything

thanx

I successfully recreated this in the sandbox.  The tab is called "Multiple File Uploads" and there are 5 file upload fields.

can you give me the exact steps of what you did to reproduce the issue on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/

I just tried uploading 5 files and it worked fine and did not give me any warning messages etc

Hi Maia - I just also tried to recreate the bug on sandbox - and I uploaded only two of the five possible files in your custom field tab (which I think was the problem case). It worked properly for me - 2 files uploaded and no errors.
