Profile, what's the point of being able to mix participants & individuals & ...?

Hi,

On each profile, you can mix fields from several tables (eg. you can take the status of the participant and the first name of the individual).

I was hoping that you could update several tables at ones, and that civi would be able to make the join (eg, each participant has one and only one contact).

However, I never have been able to choose fields from more than one table. Is it something I do wrong or is it normal that it doesn't work ?

If this is normal, why do we have, for each field, to choose if we want individual or org or this or that ? Wouldn't it be clearer to set, at the profile level, that it's going to be for an individual/participant/household, and not ask it everytime for each field ?

Main purpose of Profile with Individual+ Participant fields is to correct some exactly information while Event Registration process. So lets say we have a custom data of type Participant, then we can include that in the profile. This way it allows to correct extra information.

am i making sense to you ...

Hi,

Not sure I understood.

I'm trying to batch update via profile a list of participant. If I mix participant and individuals, it doesn't work.

Is there a rule of what combination works where ?

Participant+ Individual profiles are allowed only for Online Event Registration.

Batch updating using Profile for Participants you need to have pure "Participant" profile.
