In the Title and Settings section of a Contributions page, it says:

Quote
Payment Processor
   Select the payment processor to be used for contributions submitted from this contribution page (unless you are soliciting non-monetary / in-kind contributions only). (read more...)

But if I don't select a payment processor, the page won't work.
How can I set up membership that is free, or non-monetary like the help text suggests?

Go to "Manage Contribution Pages>>Configure Contribution Page" and uncheck "Execute real-time monetary transactions". Also disable "Contribution Amounts section enabled" if any. This should work without selecting a payment processor.

I'm actually getting hopelessly confused between Memberships / Membership types / Contribution pages / Contribution types.
