More successful deliveries than intended recipients

I've just run two mailings, each to several thousand addresses, and both times the successful deliveries is more than the intended recipients.  I've run two similar mailings at the end of April and didn't have this problem, the recipients and deliveries matched.

Mailing 1
Intended Recipients   2623
Succesful Deliveries   2793 (106.48%)

Mailing 2
Intended Recipients   3928
Succesful Deliveries   4112 (104.68%)

Also, I received no bounced mail at all.  Both of these lists were cleaned up after bounces from the April e-mail.  There are also now unsubscribed and opted-out people from these lists, so I don't know if that would somehow impact this.  What additional information can I provide to help trouble-shoot this issue?

I'm running CiviCRM 9712.

Is there a chance your cronjob runs overlapped?

Have you gotten any complaints from users?  Is there anyway you can confirm if anyone received duplicated?  You might try looking in the mailing_event_queue and mailing_delivered tables for some evidence.

Piotr's hypothesis of cron jobs overlapping is possible.  We have had this experience when there has been a high load on the machine and a mailing batch has not completed before the next cron rolls around.

How many messages are you sending per cron?

I've found the same. I'm using CiviCRM 1.9.13019 & find that the duplicates are occurring during (likely) heavy server loads. I'm sending 200 per cron run (as my host will only allow 250 outbound messages per hour). This run, it look like the first run sent many duplicates, well over my "throttle". I got complaints from my customer trying to send messages through the outbound server (the 250 limit hit). I'm wondering how many are actually getting through?

If I had access to the exim logs I might be able to troubleshoot further. Any help would be well thanked.

1. how often does your cron fire? once an hour, i assume? if more than that, it will exceed your host limit on the second run

2. in 2.0 we've added db based locking on jobs. so multiple crons can run simultaneously but they do not process the same job. Would be good to figure out if this is not working on your host
