Drupal Installation Directory Question
July 18, 2008, 05:36:24 am
I've been using Joomla! for quite some time but it lacks the permissions functionality that I need to manage my membership so I've decided to go with a Drupal / civicrm install. I have played around with a Drupal installation before but am not very familiar with it's inner workings.

I installed a fresh Drupal 6.3 off of my cpanel auto install and downloaded the latest Civicrm (2.0.5) the installation directions say to install to /sites/all/modules however my directory structure does not include the modules within the ~/all directory. There is a /drupal/modules directory however. I'm a bit confused, do I install it into the /drupal/modules directory or do I create a /modules within the ~/sites/all directory?

edit: I did a bit of reading and realized that Civicrm 2.0.x will not work with a 6.2+ install of Drupal to begin with so I guess I'm going to have to download an older version (5.8?) of Drupal to get these two to work together. Maybe this accounts for the directory structure differences. Now My next question, once Civicrm 2.1 comes out, if I have Drupal 5.8 / Civicrm 2.0.5 working together will I be able to easily upgrade to 6.x/2.1?

Greg,

1. You just need to create a "modules" directory in "~/all" and you can put CiviCRM (or any other module) in there right away.

2. Yes, you will be able to easily upgrade from 2.0.5 to 2.1. Drupal upgrade is a completely separate thing, although it should be easy as well.

Thx,
m
