"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site"

Sometimes I am getting a horrible message from IE--IE 7--the message is:

Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site

Sometimes I get this message when I navigate to the site; sometimes I have to be logged in to the site; I cannot reproduce this error on demand--but it is happening so often, at least 2x per week that I am troubled by it.

Doing a quick search I get more than 2K hits for "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site" on google

Gary Haran has an excellent write up which includes this cause:

Internet Explorer doesn’t like scripts appending elements to the existing DOM, especially when the script tag is inside ul, ol, table, form, blockquote, and various other tags…. When Internet Explorer fails it fails spectacularly by shutting down the script engine and aborting page rendering.

unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how to implement his fixes:

I also found this post on drupal.org, but this relates to editors being the cause of the problem and as I said I sometime get it immediately upon navigating to the site following a launch of IE--and I have IE set to open to a blank page.

Any thoughts?

Don't have much of an idea on how to debug or make progress on this. You might try using Firebug on Firefox which is great at debugging problems w/ web pages and seeing if it complains about anything. Also might be worth seeing if there are any similar tools / plugins for IE.
