CiviSMS: willing to contribute
July 20, 2008, 07:30:01 am
Hello,
First I want to say I'm a new CiviCRM user and never contributed to the development effort around here.
I wrote some code using php, but 99.9% of my programming experience is in other environments.

I'm writing this post after I've read this wiki page http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviSMS
and that thread http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,1749.msg7578.html

Currently I'm leading Six Colors N.G.O., which deals with community-building in the area of GLBT's in Israel. We've been using CiviCRM for few months and find it extreamly useful.
BUT we strive for the SMS functionality as many of our events guests ask us for an SMS reminders.

We've got no money to put on it, but I'm willing to donate 4-6 work hours each week in order to assist in writing the CiviSMS module.

I'd like to hear any comments or thoughts about my initiative, and also call (am I too rude as a newbie?) those who wish to join the effort.

A firm in australia has migrated and deployed CiviSMS for 1.9 (i think) using clickatell

I've asked them to post the code here. You can potentially use that code as a basis to migrate it to 2.1

You should also take a look at http://drupal.org/project/smsframework with regard to adding some features/functinality to CiviSMS

Not sure why, but SMS does not seem to be a bit thing for the civi user base :(

Hi,

On the svn, they seems to be sms stuff (clickatel related).

Yes, SMS should be a great new action tool. One of my client uses it ("by hand") to send alerts when something hot happens, and that's very effective.
