Membership vs. Contact
July 21, 2008, 11:40:14 am
I have figured out how to add a contact from a standalone form, and I've figured out how to set up a contribution page to add a new member... but I'm still confused.

How can I add a contact and make them a member through the same standalone form?

Also... membership is free so I don't need to worry about payment processors for the signup.

Alright, I've figured out how to make a contribution page that collects the new member information as well as the contact information.  HOWEVER, I still dont know how to make the contribution page a standalone page on another part of my site (outside of the drupal installation).

Just link to the URL of the contribution page.
In Drupal 6, you will also be able to create a human readable alias and link to that URL.

Note that a contribution page CANNOT be a standalone page. A contribution page is a series of 3 connected pages.

So basically... there isnt a way to make a contact and a member from a standalone page?

Lets try a different tack, why do you need a standalone page? What is your use case? What user experience are you trying to get?

I have the site setup with wordpress.  Heres the page where I used to have an HTML form send an email with the registration info. http://eatsmartmovemoresc.org/membership2/.
Here is my drupal installation... http://eatsmartmovemoresc.org/members/.  I want to be able to seamlessly let a user register when they are on the site.  My main concern with linking to the contrib page is that people will think they are on another site, and I wont have consistent navigation for them to get back.

since we dont have wordpress integration (and no plans for it in the short term either), you'll need to theme the drupal site to look similar to your wordpress site

Thanks for the help... at least now I won't spend hours looking for how to do it ;)

I need to learn more about editing Drupal Themes... wonder if its anything similar to Wordpress...
