Hi, I'm still trying to navigate through the CiviContribute module a bit, and didn't quite understand the difference between Contribution Type and Contribution Source?

Both are listed in the CiviCRM_Contribute table as follows:

Contribution Type ---> Contribution_Type_Id = FK to Contribution Type
Source ---> Source = Origin of this Contribution

I would have just imagined that Contribution Type = Source. Can others comment on how they distinguish the two in their organizations?

Contribution type is more of a categorization of your various contributions (donations, campaign contributions, fund raiser etc)

Source is basically a text box for any information that the org might want to enter (we autopopulate it from a contribution page). So this could be "Donation from year end mailing appeal" etc

Yes they do overlap in functionality
