Emailing only once

Is there any quick and dirty way of making an email message sent via Civi, where 2 recipients have the same email address, to only send one copy of the message ?  (Apart from marking one person as no email ).

One of our CiviCRM users asked the above question today. Thought I'd post it here to raise discussion, see if there are any simple approaches, or perhaps if this is something which might need to be considered for CiviCRM.

I think the question applies both to CiviMail and to emails sent from core CiviCRM - the user wasn't specific, but I would probably expect CiviCRM to behave consistently in both cases anyway.
