making Civicrm available to public in Joomla
August 04, 2008, 02:20:41 pm
I have installed Joomla 1.5 with legacy support and added civicrm to it (thats the main reason for setting up joomla)

Installation was fairly straightforward and I can access the civicrm administration pages when looged in the administration side of Joomla. -

What I cannot do is add a menu in Joomla to make Civicrm present on the public part of Joomla. - I have enabled it in module manager and set up a menu item to display (as best as I understand it) Civicrm.

The url provided by joomla is http://mydomain.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_civicrm&Itemid=55 but the content says  'Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred. Could not find valid value for gid'

I have never used Joomla before and I suspect this may be a joomla rather than civicrm issue, but I would appreciate any pointers as to how to link civicrm with Joomla?

When you create the menu item in Joomla, parameters specific to CiviCRM will be displayed on the right. This includes selecting a CiviCRM page type from the dropdown, and indicating the event, contribution page, or profile page ID number that you want displayed. The CiviCRM dashboard option does not require an ID. That error is likely because you've not indicated a valid ID in those settings.

I am also very new hoping this might be helpful.  For:  J1.5X and civiCRM 2 beta. (Editing requested by better users please if needed)

Joomla admin>
1. Go to Menu Manager and >(new) create a new Name_menu.
2, Open that Name_menu from Menu manager and  >(new) create Name_menu items (3) possibly.  These should be names like Create_profile, Edit_profile, Search_profile. and all should be Item type ~ CiviCRM~ (Select Menu Item type).
3. As U create these menu items  U can choose their Chosen CiviCRM task from the pulldown upper right.  Match the task item to your Name_menu (ex:Create_profile goes with task Profile create). The link tags are done for U. >>> PROFILE ID # must be filled in here. Go get the ID # from your Profile creation in CiviCRM and plug it here.  Same one for all your menu items.
4. Go to Extentions/Module Manager and >(new)  create module called Name_Menu (from step 1) and place it in a module location using  position (puldown a choice ex: top, user 1, header etc).  Go see! out front it R a very kool magic trick indeed.
enjoy,
