Is civiEVENT standalone a good option for a 3-day, multipart event?

We are assisting a cancer fundraising event sponsor. The civiEVENT standalone module is being considered. The event spans 3 days, including a golf tournament, dinner and show each evening, plus a live and silent auction. We need registration for individuals and families, ticket sales for different sub-events, online donation, email announcements, email confirmations, email reminders and overall contact management. Plus we want to be able to modify for different but similar events in the future. Travel management might be a future option, but not needed at this time.

Will the civiEVENT standalone work to accomplish the above as an add-on to a static web site? We are not programmers, but have low to intermediate level web design and development experience and capabilities. We would rather not have to setup a Drupal or Joomla site, since we know nothing about it.

Online auction could be a future possibility, but probably would require more than what civiCRM offers at this time. Not sure. Thanks very much.

CiviCRM (which includes the CiviEvent component as well as CiviMail and CiviContribute - which you'll also potentially need for this) can cover most if not all of the functionality you've listed - although the WAY it can handle a very complex set of sub-events might not be sophisticated enough for your needs. You'll want to check out the "Price Set" functionality - which allows you to create a set of fields which define the various elements for an overall registration and their prices.

As far as using CiviCRM "standalone" - I think this has mostly been used for "backoffice" functionality with custom connectors to a CMS other than Drupal or Joomla for situations where public-facing interaction is needed. However, you should be able to customize and "style" the event registration templates sufficiently to make them "blend" in with your public static website.

I'd suggest playing around with setting up an Event w/ a Price Set either on the public sandbox (http://sandbox.civicrm.org) OR downloading and installing your own copy.

Thank you. I think the pricing options will work. I went over to the sandbox. So, you're saying in order to have the email management capability and the donation feature, we need those modules also? Is that a minor deal once we have the initial setup completed?
Other part of my original questions --- do you think a non-programmer could install this?

Hi,

All the modules come together, that's a matter of activating or not.

The installation isn't rocket science, however, the stuff you describe might need custom features/export/adjustments, and for that, you'll need a developer.

This being said, you will probably need someone in the forum to help you if you need it.
