Comparison between Joomla & Drupal distributions
August 10, 2008, 04:44:17 pm
Hi All, been away from here for a while (other projects and such).

Getting back up to speed, but need the opinion of a couple of current users. have to put together dome customer demo sites, but time is limited.

Tried the Joomla demo, but its buggy at best, so couldn't get an accurate perspective.

1/ What are the current differences in core Civicrm functionality between Joomla & Drupal distributions (if any)?

2/ Are the civicrm add-ons effectively the same under joomla & drupal, or is a drupal install still way ahead.

3/ is there any difference in functionality between J!1.0.x and J!1.5.x

1. cms user integration and permissions are better in drupal than joomla. however there has been some recent activity by joomla/civicrm folks that are attempting to bridge this gap

2. no, there are more drupal add-ons. however, not sure how many of these have made it into 2.0 land

3. 2.1 will support j! 1.5 and not j! 1.0. Check: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCRM+v2.1 for 2.1 features

Hay Lobo, and thanks.

(Are you still in NZ?)
Ok, will probably run with a drupal install first then, as the wiki says 2.1 need mySQL 5.0, and my supplier is still stuck on 4.1

(ouch, you might want to highlight that in big bold capitals to potential upgraders).
Going to take a while to get back up to speed since the last 5 upgrades ;)
