Joomla 1.5.6 and CiviCRM 2.1 alpha 2
August 14, 2008, 11:25:27 am
Problem Description:
I want to install CiviCRM as a Joomla! component on GoDaddy Shared Hosting, but it doesn’t work and I’m so confused as to how anyone got this to work. Please, please help me get this to work.

Log/Error Messages:
Blank Screen after seeming successful installation

Actions Taken To Resolve:
I created a php5.ini file and an .htaccess file to handle the timeouts, but it doesn’t seem to help. I know for sure that the php5.ini is working because my phpinfo() file seems to link to it and updated accordingly. I’ve been trying for 2 days, reading countless forums but I can’t seem to install CiviCRM and its become very disappointing. Please help.

php5.ini:
Code: [Select]
register_globals = off
allow_url_fopen = off
mysql.connect_timeout = 60
expose_php = Off

max_input_time = 600
max_execution_time 6000
memory_limit = 64M

variables_order = "EGPCS"
extension_dir = ./
upload_tmp_dir = /tmp
precision = 12
rg_emulation=off
SMTP = relay-hosting.secureserver.net
url_rewriter.tags = "a=href,area=href,frame=src,input=src,form=,fieldset="

zend_extension=zend/ZendOptimizer.so
zend_extension_ts=zend/TS/ZendOptimizer.so
zend_extension=zend/ZendExtensionManager.so

.htaccess:
Code: [Select]

GoDaddy hosting sucks. (sorry to put it so bluntly)

I just ran through this on a site (installing Civi on GoDaddy) and the only way I could manage to do it was to install everything manually. If you do a search of forums you'll find a post on how to install manually. Despite altering the php settings, I couldn't get around either a timeout error or incomplete installation.

this is *my* opinion only...

For cheap shared hosting: Bluehost.com -- they're not going to blow you away with speed, but I have a number of CiviCRM installations running just fine on their environment.

If you're a 501(c)3 not for profit, you may be able to get free hosting at: Thinkhost.com (control panel is not as robust as cPanel, which is what Bluehost uses, but I think their servers are a little better/faster.)

VPS: eApps.com -- there's a noticeable improvement in site performance, even with the $10/mo option, over shared hosting. You need a little better knowledge of linux hosting, but they are basically a "managed" VPS solution, so it's not as though you need to become a network admin. They have a large sliding scale of hosting levels available, so there's a lot of room for growth. And the $20/mo option includes a JRE environment, which would be required for CiviReport/Birt

fezzicnex,

I was getting the exact same error and someone else in this forum proposed to run a phpMyAdmin SQL with the following statement:

Code: [Select]
CREATE TABLE civicrm_cache ( id int unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , group_name varchar(255) NOT NULL COMMENT 'group name for cache element, useful in cleaning cache elements', path varchar(255) COMMENT 'Unique path name for cache element', data text COMMENT 'data associated with this path', component_id int unsigned COMMENT 'Component that this menu item belongs to', created_date datetime COMMENT 'When was the cache item created', expired_date datetime COMMENT 'When should the cache item expire' , PRIMARY KEY ( id ) , UNIQUE INDEX UI_group_path( group_name(100) , path(100) ) , CONSTRAINT FK_civicrm_cache_component_id FOREIGN KEY (component_id) REFERENCES civicrm_component(id) )

The only difference is the index part on the original SQL in the side: UNIQUE INDEX UI_group_path( group_name(100) , path(100) )... instead of UNIQUE INDEX UI_group_path( group_name , path ).

This creates the Table however does not fix the other Warning problems, I am now getting the same errors that you are reporting in your error log. Let me know if you overcome all the Warnings... of course we can always install this on a different server.
Andres
