Automatic search for website addresses using name field
August 15, 2008, 01:09:17 pm
Hello,

I've done a search and can't find a way to do this, either through CiviCRM or through another program, but please let me know if it is possible.

Otherwise, I would love to be able to do an automatic search for website addresses using the organization name field. We currently have 100's of organizations in our database who likely have websites, but we don't have them in our database. I am just starting to go through one by one and find their websites, but this is of course taking a while! An automatic search and report (perhaps in a csv file, like the error reports for imports) on the top URL's found in the search would be a great feature for us.

Thanks

Kurund Jalmi

You might consider creating profile with fields Organization Name and website address, both marked as Searchable. Then use search mode of profile.

Check http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Basic+Profile+Functions

You might also want to try "Search Views" feature in Advanced Search.

Using the Profile with fields suggested by Kurund - you could also use "Batch Update via Profile" to give you a "grid" where you can input a whole list of website URL's at once.

Basic steps (after you've created the Profile):
* From Find Contacts, search for all Organizations.
* Select ALL
* From -more actions-, select "Batch Update via Profile"
* Select your profile and hit Continue
* You should now see an update-able grid form with your web-site field

I'm new at this, so just as soon as I figure out profiles (which has been on my work list as well)...I'll try this!

Thank-you for the suggestions!
