Different Non-Install Behavior w/ Alpha 3 and Joomla 1.5
August 15, 2008, 05:20:45 pm
In a prior post http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,4375.0.html, I described a Domit timeout error when trying to perform a localhost install of 2.1 Alpha 2 on a Joomla 1.5.5 site.  I have tried to install Alpha 3 and now get different behavior - an all-white screen.  I have made all of the suggested mods to the htaccess, php.ini and vhost.config files.  I want to emphasize that I can install CiviCRM 2.0 using the modified files.  I am making sure that I have cleaned out all CiviCRM files before trying to reinstall or have started with a fresh versions (i.e., no prior CiviCRM install attempts) of the Joomla/SQL data.

In the latest attempt, I only get about 2.5MB loaded in the administrator/components/com_civicrm directory and only 4.5KB of the components/com_civicrm directory.  I am try a directory install as described in the Joomla install documentation.

I realize that people can have a lot of problems attempting to install on a remote server with limited access to the htaccess and php.ini files.  I am trying to figure out why a localhost install works for CiviCRM 2.0 but not 2.1 Alpha 2 or 3.

Thanks for any insights.

Thanks for responding.

I made one last attempt to install Alpha 3 after restarting my own system.  It worked this time!

I'll let you know if I encounter any bugs.

In case you haven't heard it enough, this product is great.  You guys are doing a great service to the non-profit world.
