UPDATE: CiviMail on GoDaddy shared hosting
August 19, 2008, 07:10:08 pm
HMMM...

Tried and tried to get CiviMail to work using the SMTP settings I use in Outlook for my domain email...no luck, and I was SURE I had them entered correctly.

Well, imagine my surprise when I did a phpinfo.php just for the fun of it and discovered that the server for SMTP configured is something else entirely...and they even list the port!

Entered the server into my SMTP settings and Voila! Mail was sent. Then ran ~/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/bin/civimail.cronjob.php, looked in my inbox and what do you know? Mail from CiviMail. Not sure if I'm still completely out of the woods...dunno how it's gonna handle replies (help/direction appreciated), but I'm halfway there!

UPDATE: After thoroughly reading all the installation methods/steps, I called GoDaddy and asked them if the support IMAP (which they don't...), so I guess I'm SOL.

Will either have to go w/ civiSMTP or switch hosts...I just last year switched off of Dreamhost, and now I see that they offer FREE hosting to non-profits; I KNOW their system can handle civimail (I used to use ListMail, which seems to be similar...).

GoDaddy does, indeed, suck...

Wow! CiviCRM might put us all through our paces, but it's worth the work!
