Moving to a Different Domain Name
August 20, 2008, 02:51:48 pm
I tried moving my 2.1 installation to a different domain name.  I changed the settings file, but the civi links still point to the old domain name.  I did a search and can't seem to find anything about this.

What else do I need to change?

Global Settings >> Resource URLs, and possibly Directories if your file system location has also changed.

Thanks for the quick response Dave.

I checked both those things and they're correct.  It's kind of strange because it only seem to be happening in the "CiviCRM Menu" both in the main page and the block.  The shortcuts are correct.

If I re-do this anything I should know?

Thanks,
tc

I think I figured it out.  I had to delete all the entries in the civicrm_menu table.  I guess that doesn't reset automatically.  I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I also set the backend_config field to null in the civicrm_domain table.

Just a tip for next occurence of such problem: after moving to different domain, menu needs to be regenerated by visiting url: http://domain.name/path-to-civicrm/civicrm/menu/rebuild?reset=1

Thx,
m

I've added the "menu rebuild" step to the wiki documentation on moving your CiviCRM site:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location

Folks should add / fix / clarify steps on this page if needed.
