Noting some Households as containing Members
August 20, 2008, 05:09:47 pm
Any suggestions on how to mark those Households that contain a Household Member who has a Membership?

Wanting to set up an easy export that includes all Members and any Households that contain a Member.

Reason is the ongoing difficulty of handling post to Households. IE we want to send one posting to Household that has multiple members (though membership is only ever as an Individual).

So our newsletter has a 'Shared Print' option which is what gets put down against Members who are Household MEmbers, and then the Household gets marked as "Print' so the mailing goes to them.

When we do the export we then have a table which shows all Members who get Print, those Members who are Shared Print, and those Households that are Print. That way we can run a check to ensure that everyone is getting one and one only.

At present we have to export all Households and then remove any that do not have an address that is the same as a member. WOuld be much easier if I could 'mark' them in some way without having to set up another type of Membership.

2.1 has a feature to "Merge labels for contacts with the same address" on the "Create Mailing Labels" action. Would that help with this? (Try it out on the sandbox if you or Chris don't have a 2.1 install yet).

So I see - interesting - but does it only function for the Create Labels, or can it also be applied in the Export function? It is the latter that could be really helpful for us.

This is currently only implemented for the Create Labels task. It is also a brute force / simple exact address match criteria and does not do any household matching (it was a contributed patch)
