Question on multilingual feature
August 21, 2008, 07:22:04 pm
I have configured CiviCRM to use more than one language.  I would like to store 2 versions of each contact's name, each version using a different alphabet/language.  How do I do this?

Did I help you? Please donate to the Civi-Make-It-Happen campaign  CiviCRM for mobile devices!

If you’re using 2.1.alpha4, you should get a drop-down language switcher in the top-left corner of the CiviCRM pages; you can use it to switch between languages.

For certain fields that we’re internationalising in 2.1 (a subset of the target set – fields like contacts’ names, for example), editing these fields in a given language will change only this language’s values – so you can create a contact (which populates these fields for all languages) and then edit it after switching the language – and you’ll be editing just that language’s version.

Additionally, if your user has the ‘translate CiviCRM’ privilege, you can use the small ‘flag’ icon next to these fields to edit the given field’s contents in various languages.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
