Clicking Previous button loses the text in the email!
August 23, 2008, 05:39:15 am
Using the wysiwyg editor in CiviMail is nice but if the person sends a test email and then decides to click previous to go fix the email a bit all the text is gone.
Is there a way around this other then composing it in a stand alone editor and uploading it?

I think we have fixed this issue in CiviCRM v2.1. Can you try to replicate on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/

If a client is stuck with 2.0 is there a way around this?
Yes it works in 2.1 but since it does not work with drupal 5 they are stuck w/ 2.0.x
I am going to look at 2.0.x updates too
Thanks

We create a small group to test with.  Then if there have been significant modifications, we always complete and send the email to the test group, then re-use the mailing.  That way we don't lose our work.

Another method is to use an external html editor and file and then copy and paste in the html - one of our users is doing this and I also do this approach when things get complicated.

Makes for lots of mailings in the event queue and wish there was an easier way to remove the mailings other than one at a time.

Thanks for the reply.
This seems like a lot to ask from the users ) -:
Especially with Constant Contact.

I think for me the next question is how to integrate civicrm into drupal with out the problems that come when one upgrades and the other can not.
So many user still in drupal 5 can not benefit from the 2.1 civi fixes.
Maybe the civicrm community needs more help to make sure the 2.x etc get these fixes and stay a valid platform for more time.
Like a long term support option.
I know it is a rapidly growing project, but there needs to be some balance with moving forward and maintaining / fixes previous fixes.

Don't get me wrong this is not pointing the finger at anyone, just me trying to figure out what part to play in it.

sorry about the tangent.

dave:

Would be great for you to contribute / sponsor a fix to make this happen. Wishing only gets you so far :)

This does seem like a useful feature to have :) please file an issue and we'll try to get it in a future release

Don't get me wrong this is not pointing the finger at anyone, just me trying to figure out what part to play in it.

a few things:

1. You might want to chat with gregory heller from civicactions. they are also interested in a backport. Maybe you'll can combine forces, recruit other folks and raise the money to hire someone (the core team is not interested in doing it but will be happy to do some paid consulting and setting direction)

2. Matt chapman raised this issue up in a forum post a few months back: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=4503.0. You might want to follow up on that

3. In general, quite a few folks want the backport, but not too many are willing to step up and do it / sponsor the work. Also note that according to our recent stats more than 75% of the installs are already on 2.1 / 2.2, so the value of this is decreasing at a fast rate.

Our estimate is approx 100 hours of development and then based on adoption another couple of hundred hours on support and maintainance
