CRMEvent - Register multiple particpants on one page
August 24, 2008, 09:39:08 am
Hello all!  I am new here.

My client wishes to be able to register multiple participants for an event on one page.  My first question is:
1) Would the civiCRM developer community recommend that I do this as a plug-in or by extending (modifying) CRMEvent?  Is it possible to do it either way?
2) If I extend CRMEvent, do developers recommend that I start with the stable 2.0 or with the latest 2.1 Alpha release?

As a demo to my client, I have modifying Registration.tpl and placed it under the custom/CRM/Event/Form/Register.tpl/ directory.  I am attaching it here (renamed with a .txt extension) so that others may try it out to see what I am envisioning.

I will appreciate whatever guidance you can give me.

Hi,

Have a look at the sandbox, the forthcoming 2.1 version has that feature (or something that sounds close enough to your needs)

civiCRM 2.1 requires an upgrade to Drupal 6.x, which my client is not prepared to do, as he has many installed modules for which there is not yet a stable 6.x release available.  Therefore, my client asked me how much time he thinks it might take me to backport the work already done in 2.1 on multi-participant registration into 2.0.  Can anyone comment on the practicality of backporting?  In particular, does anyone know what schema changes, if any, might have been done to accommodate multi-participant registration?

Thats a pretty big patch to backport. You can find most of the changes here:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3086?page=com.atlassian.jira.ext.fisheye:fisheye-issuepanel

however we might not have caught all the changes, and some of the changes might have been triggered by other changes in v2.1. Personally, i would avoid the backport and live without that feature till the client is ready to upgrade.

Might be a bit simpler to try to make CiviCRM v2.1 integrate with Drupal 5.9 :)
