Selling merchandise
August 26, 2008, 10:34:00 am
I'm working with an organization that wants to sell video tapes from their tape catalog.

In theory I could make the tapes "premiums" and sell them that way - but before going down that route - I was wondering if other people have figured out ways to use CiviCRM to sell merchandise.

Thanks!

Any specific reasons for not using shopping cart modules ?

Thanks for the response.

Do you mean Drupal shopping cart modules?

I may be a bit fuzzy about where Drupal stops and CiviCRM begins.

If I used a regular Drupal shopping cart, then users would make purchases via Drupal, then periodically, we could synchronize Drupal users with CiviCRM.

However - would there be a way to perform searches that included what merchandise people bought in combination with, say, donations? The CiviCRM search interface is really advanced - so I'd prefer to be able to use it and run searches against merchandise purchased.

Or... I might just be mis-understanding your answer :).

hey jamie:

there are two options in drupal shopping cart universe, e-commerce and undercart. Both have some integration with civicrm (i.e. they allow you to see the transactions made by a contact in a tab). I'm not sure if e-civicrm (the e-commerce integration) has been ported to 2.0. The ubercart integration has been documented here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Integration+with+Drupal+Ubercart+module
http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,1951.0.html

I dont think either allows you to search for merchandise folks bought within CiviCRM. For that , you might want to build a custom search

Thanks for the links to the Ubercart integration lobo - I was just looking at the ubercart module. That seems like the best way to go. I'll give it a shot and provide feedback :).

Just wanted to add that we have tested the uc_civicrm module with Ubercart 1.3 and it works. I'll update the wiki page.

thanks and hope it works out for you
