NTEN conference -- deadline for session proposals is Sept. 12
August 26, 2008, 01:40:11 pm
The next NTEN conference is Sunday, April 26 through Tuesday, April 28 at the San Francisco Hilton. Session planning is happening now -- see http://09ntc.wikispaces.com/. I think CiviCRM sessions would be in the Communications track. Submit a session: Now until September 12.

I think a great NTC session would be to have three organizations using CiviCRM stand up and give an overview of their selection, implementation, use, and support experience. Pros, Cons... lots of concrete examples, etc.

I'm willing to organize the session and write it up if you are willing to present! If you've never done a conference session I can also help you organize your thoughts and think through the important things to communicate... so if you'll be there, please give back to the CiviCRM community by participating.

Is anyone going to NTC in sunny San Francisco? The 2009 NTC will take place Sunday, April 26 through Tuesday, April 28 at the San Francisco Hilton.

If I can get one or two people to express willingness, I'll organize the session.

This is a great opportunity to help promote CiviCRM.

For those who aren't familiar with NTEN conferences: The sessions are 90 minutes. There are many concurrent sessions, so most sessions have 40 or so attendees. NTEN puts presentation materials online (last year's are at https://www.ntenonline.org/eweb/DynamicPage.aspx?webcode=EventSessions) and on a USB drive that goes into the conference totebag, and links to presentation materials are added to the CiviCRM documentation wiki. In addition to all that, you're likely to learn from others, and the conference is great fun.

There is some feedback on last year's conference starting at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Information_Systems_Forum/message/9606. Here's one comment:

Besides that, this was my first NTC and I have to say it was the BEST conference
I have ever been to. At most professional conferences I go to, there's a
"stiffness" in the air, for lack of a better word. You do your thing, exchange a
few business cards, socialize in the hallway and that's about it. At NTC there
was such a feeling of connection between everyone (and no, it wasn't just
through all the Tweets). I can't think of a single conversation I had in those 3
days that I didn't learn from and thoroughly enjoy. All the sessions I attended
except for one were really good.

If I can make it, I'd love to participate in such a session. My company supports ~40 installations for organizations as diverse as education institutions, labor unions, religious groups, charities, political activists, and one small real estate company. I think I could contribute a bit about how to use & extend CiviCRM creatively.

David, I expect that I'll be there, and that by that time AFSC will have a good deal to say about how we're using CiviCRM, and how we've been involved in the community.
