If a user makes a contribution in honor of someone who is not in the database, a contact record for that honoree is created. I have seen no way to distinguish this contact record from one that was entered by staff, or entered by the person themselves.

It seems to me that a record created by a contribution in honor or remembrance should somehow be flagged as such. Possibly by filling out the source field, or adding the contact to a group.

Additionally, it could be helpful to automatically create a relationship between the donor and the honoree

1. can you please file an issue and/or a patch to update the source field when a honor contact record is created in a contribution. If issue, we'll fix it in a 2.x version

2. The honor_contact_id is stored in the civicrm_contribution record. So you can derive the relationship from that table. This allows us to tag both the contact and the related contribution, rather than the relation between the two contacts only
