Adding Custom Fields to Profile Page in CiviCRM 1.8
August 31, 2008, 10:14:17 pm
I'm running CiviCRM 1.8.11536 on Joomla! 1.0.11 Stable.  (The server does not belong to me, so upgrading is not necessarily a possibility.)  I want to add some custom fields to a profile page, but can't seem to find the path to do so.

I have created a custom group, and added the three custom fields to it.  But when I create a new profile (or edit one that already exists). I don't see any option to include a custom field on the profile.

I'm brand new to CiviCRM but I've spent a significant amount of time perusing the docs, and all I see is the suggestion that once I create the custom group and custom fields that belong to it, I should have some obvious option to add those fields to an existing profile.  What am I missing?

Again, upgrading Joomla and CiviCRM is not going to be my first option, as the server does not belong to me.  But I don't see anything that says custom fields are not available in version 1.8...?

Thanks...

Maureen

Maureen:

Hmm CiviCRM v1.8, trying recollect from my memories.

Few things to check:
- What type of Custom Data are you creating? If you create Custom Data of type "Individual", it will be under Individual select option in Profile adding screen.
- Make sure custom data that you create is "active".
- Make sure profile field is also "active"

Again i would strongly recommend, you consider upgrade. There have lots of significant changes to CiviCRM since v1.8
