joomla 1.5.6 + civicrm 2.1 beta
September 02, 2008, 11:02:09 am
I've been trying to install civicrm for some time now with no success.  I tried installing the older version and was unsuccessful so I have been waiting for this version to come out since it is supposed to work with joomla 1.5+

The directions don't seem to be quite consistent with the menu system of joomla 1.5
The only way I can see to try to install anything is to use the
Extensions-> Install/Uninstall
I have tried the 'upload package' but I get the following errors:

'Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package
Warning zip_read() expects paramter 1 to be a resource, integer given in /home/.../libraries/joomla/filesystem/archive/zip.php on line 235 (and again for zip_close() .. line 251)
 Unable to find install package.

I have tried 'install from directory' but I can't ever seem to point it at anything that makes it happy.
I've uploaded the unzipped com_civicrm folder to joomla directory .../administrator/components/com_installer
I've tried to install from:
.../com_civicrm
.../com_civicrm/admin
.../com_civicrm/admin/civicrm
.../com_civicrm/admin/civicrm/joomla

I've looked at the other forum posts where people have moved things around manually but they seem to apply to a previous version and do not match the directory structure in the current versions of joomla and civicrm.

I'm using Bluehost which was one of the recommended hosts...

I'm at a loss as to what to do to install this package...
Can anybody help?

Thanks, Made the correction.

There are some posts on "alternate routes of installation" you might want to experiment -

OK, I finally got it to work.
The package installer uploads the zip file to the joomla_install_dir/tmp  directory but can't unzip it for some reason.
By going to the server and unzipping this file into this location and then giving joomla the path
joomla_install_dir/tmp/com_civicrm for 'install from directory' I was able to get it installed.

(No other locations or copying unzipped files from local computer worked for me)

I must be living right, I did  the upload yesterday  into J1.5.6, civiccrm-2.1-beta3 and it installed aok.  I did try from directory first but could never get my FTP to handle the huge unzipped files. So, I chose ~upload package file~ took several minutes but finally successfully completed.  Now, if I had any clue how to proceed all would be keen.  It would be nice to see a simple intro HOW to get things moving? ... a simple ~do it this way Hello world tester~ just to get the feel of it would be keen,  sheesh,  Would like some feedback on beginer how tos etc.. good luck, glad it finally worked 4U.

Have you checked out the screencasts, and the tutorial on Exploring Sample Data that are linked from the "Getting Started" section of the doc?
