CiviMail w/ GoDaddy shared Hosting
September 03, 2008, 08:28:24 am
Has anyone gotten the mail system to work with goDaddy shared hosting...

I've got a real problem...I can get it to send emails to contacts with no problem, using localhost or about any other SMTP settings I want, but it will NOT send email receipts from CiviContribute or CiviEvent, saying my settings are invalid; when I put in the SMTP settings I KNOW are valid from my outlook setup, everything bombs out....

I know the full CiviMail system requires an IMAP account, something which, until this week, was unavailable from GoDaddy; I've just upgraded my mail accounts to that, and hope it will resolve this issue using the alternative configuration w/ the imap2soap.pl script.

Has ANYONE gotten any of this to work w/ GoDaddy??? If so, what did you use in your smtp settings and/or did you have to put in the [mail functions] section in your php.ini file??? If I don't put in those settings, my phpinfo simply says localhost port 25, which works for just sending an email to a client, but nothing else....doesn't really seem to matter, because even w/ that in my phpinfo, I can put relay-hosting.secureserver.net port 25 in my SMTP settings in Civi and mail to contacts still works, but nothing else....

Is it possible that:

1) SSL has something to do with it??? I've tried changing the ports, but still can't get it to work.
2) There is a problem w/ authentication using a full username (admin@gfso.org)??? In the docs, it says to only use the local part, but on godaddy, the server is smtpout.secureserver.net, and you must use your full email (admin@gfso.org) to authenticate???

Any direction would be most appreciated....this (I hope) is my last hurdle....!!!

1. this is not a civimail issue

2. can you double check that "send email to contacts" is working and mail is being delivered. If this is true, then its not an smtp auth issue

3. most likely this is a From address/mail issue. Can you use the same From email as was used in #2 above. This is configurable in the civicrm contribution page settings:

(The ReceiptFromEmail)

thanks, lobo...

Can't access the link you sent, but I think I follow you.

Yes, I can email contacts w/ no problem...always have been able to...it's just the receipting from CiviContribute and CiviEvent that craps out...

Will check my from email in the contribution page settings...

That was it...

Still couldn't get it to work w/ my outlook SMTP settings, but it's working fine w/ localhost, so I'm happy  ;D

didn't realize that the receipting emails had to be set up...I see that they're required (at least in that section of the setup), but nothing prevented me from setting up an event w/o those.

Thanks again!

can u please file an issue about the receipting not being set even though they are required. We should either fix the code and not use them, or prevent the registration form from loading. We'll fix this in 2.2

thanx
