HEEELP! Need to upgrade from 0.8.3!
September 03, 2008, 05:31:23 pm
I'm trying to rescue a severely broken system (the old server died), with little CivicRM experience.  The version I'm trying to save is 0.8.3... far too old for even the upgrade documentation.   :'(  I have an ISP to use, but it only has MySQL 5, so the database code won't work.  I suppose with enough time I could just hack it to run with MySQL 5, but I really don't have time.

This is an EMERGENCY threatening the very existence of a nonprofit organization.  Any help or advice would be appreciated!  I'm out of practice with MySQL and haven't coded PHP, but I'm an experience professional analyst and a very quick study, and can punt my way through most things.  If I had enough time I'm sure I could do it myself, but I don't.  ???

I should add that I wouldn't object to doing a multiple-upgrade approach if necessary, even if it's time-consuming, but I haven't yet found older versions of CivicRM with which to do an upgrade path.  ???

1. find out what version of civicrm is running. its probably 1.2 or 1.3. You can probably find out by checking the civicrm directories

2. once u know the version, you can check the wiki for upgrade instructions from 1.x -> 1.9. Most of the upgrades were just a sql script, so hopefully most of this will go smoothly

3. once u have 1.9, then use the upgrade script to upgrade to 2.0 and D5

good luck :)

The CHANGELOG.txt file says 0.8.3.  That's VERY old.

thats the civicspace version.

within it, there are two packages: drupal which has its own version (4.6 or 4.7 i suspect) and civicrm (1.2 or 1.3). you'll need to use your analyst skills and dive a bit deeper and figure out what versions of drupal/civicrm are part of that package

civicrm's first version of 1.0beta, we never had a 0.8.3 :)
