Joomla/CiviCRM 2.0 installation on Bluehost shared hosting
September 03, 2008, 07:01:46 pm
How do I determine which version of joomla I have on bluehost hosting?

in the install instructions for CiviCRM on below can someone explain items #6 & #7?
Joomla! Installation Steps
1. Verify whether your server / host is running PHP4 or PHP5. CiviCRM 2.0 is NOT compatible with PHP4.
2. Go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=177914.
3. Download the CiviCRM 2.0 for Joomla distribution file (e.g. civicrm-2.0.xxx-joomla.zip).
4. Upload this file to your joomlaroot/administrator/components/com_installer/component/ .  Unzipping will create a directory called: com_civicrm.
5. Login to your Joomla Administrator site.
6. Go to Installers menu >> Components
7. Use Install from Directory - and enter the full path to the un-zipped com_civicrm directory, which should be something like your_ joomlaroot/administrator/components/com_installer/component/com_civicrm. Click Install.
8. You should see "Component successfully installed" message.

Assuming you have access to joomla site, after you have logged-in as Administrator, on the top left side you 'll notice few drop down items.
1. If you see "System" in that list, the joomla is 1.0.x version. Selecting "System info" from the drop down list will take you to the screen where you can find the exact version of joomla against "Joomla! Version:".

2. If you don't see "System" in that list and you able to see "System info" under the drop down listing of "Help", joomla is 1.5.x version. Click on "System info" will give you the exact version.

#6 means visiting "Installers" drop down item and selecting "Components" option from the drop down list.
Note: If you see "Extensions" instead of "Installers" drop down menu item, the joomla is 1.5.x version (not compatible /w CiviCRM v2.0).

#7 describes the next-step to be done on the screen you see after #6

so if version 1.5.x will not work with CRM 2.0, what do you recommend?

Use latest CiviCRM v2.1-beta version, currently beta 3 - http://civicrm.org/node/433.

To determine which joomla you have installed on Bluehost, go to the C_panel and click on Fantastico Deluxe.  Then the left side menu will show you all the programs that can be installed.  Click on Joomla 1.5.6 or Joomla 1.0 and it will show you any installs and their location.
