Profile defaulting for all events
September 04, 2008, 05:33:30 pm
There's a profile that has been set up. Somewhere along the way, an option has been set that makes it default to show up on all events. So now when you go to the profile, it shows:

[ x ] CiviEvent

I'm trying to figure out how to change that. The profile is actually only for one event, not for all of them. I know the option is there somewhere, I just can't find where to go.

Hey,

I'm not sure I understand the setup you are describing. Could you provide a little more information or try to replicate the same setup on sandbox?

Thx,
m

Just a second thought - perhaps you're talking about custom data group setup, where you can choose event type which will be extended by given group ("Used for" value). Unfortunately, you cannot change "Used for", once the group has been created.

I wasn't the one who set up the profile, so it's hard for me to replicate. If I knew how it was done, I could track it down.

Where exactly do you do the custom data group setup? I haven't found any place where I can set up a profile or custom data to be used by CiviEvent (other than when creating an event selecting which profiles show up).

Custom data group setup is done from Administer CiviCRM >> Custom Data.  The "Used For" column in the list of custom data groups indicates if those fields are "used for" Events (vs. Contacts, or Contributions or ...).

However, if you're a CiviCRM Profile - on the "Settings" form - and you see
  • CiviEvent ... that means that one or more Events are configured to use the profile within the event registration form.

You should be able to control this for each event by going to:
Manage Events >> Configure >> Online Registration

... and then adding or removing "Include Profile" (top of form / bottom form)  - on that page. Example of this configuration form is at:

That's not it. We have a few profiles that are set up for events, and they don't show up unless we tell them to show up on the top/bottom. But one profile is showing up on every event, even though it's not been selected as one of the profiles to be shown.

There were a few bugs in 2.0 and 1.9 related to how Profiles were "linked" to event registration forms and contribution pages. (Would be good to update your forum profile and specify what version of CiviCRM and related software you're using.).

Best bet might be to try deleting the errant profile (and rebuilding it if you need it).

We're using 2.0.5 on this site, tied to Drupal. I can't wait until 2.1 is ready, as I know it solves a lot of the problems we're having.

We ended up turning that specific one off, but didn't want to delete it since it has info stored in it for the event it was supposed to be attached to. It's just odd that it is the only one that does that.
