Multi-lingual dials not working
September 07, 2008, 05:44:37 am
I am working in the sandbox environment. I have 2 languages enabled: English and Hebrew.  Then I create a new contact and edit that contact. When I click the green and purple "dial" next to the first name field, I get an Ajax dialog box with a yellow warning icon and the text "Sorry, an error occurred"

I get the same error for last name and middle name.  I have tested this issue using MS IE 7 and Firefox 3. It also happens when I try to edit existing contacts.

You need to enable the ‘translate CiviCRM’ permission – please let me know if this fixes stuff. I added this to sandbox and the demo user can now see the pop-up properly.

I think we shouldn’t be showing the icons when this permission is not enabled; I’ll see whether I can fix that for 2.1 in a simple way.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

Where do I enable the ‘translate CiviCRM’ permission in my own environment? I am using Joomla 1.5.x with CiviCRM.

It would be very helpful to have the dial icon appear when I am viewing the contact.  On the view contact screen,  I would want to view the alternate language versions of the person's name. I would not want to do any editing there.

the joomla 1.5.x admin user has all permissions enabled. so it will also have translate CiviCRM permission

You might want to post the "view alternate language versions" as a feature request. we'll consider it for a future 2.x / 3.x release
