MEmbers of Parent Group
September 08, 2008, 02:42:07 am
I see that if I look at the members of a Parent Group I see the members of any Child Groups but didn't spot anything that indicates that these contacts are there by dint of being in a Child Group.

Also thought that I would be able to click on a Parent Group and see a list of the Child Groups. Is that there? I didn't spot it.

Also, also. When viewing lists of Groups in either Adv Search or say the Group tab of a Contact it could be useful if Child Groups could have a small
'indication' that they are indeed a Child Group - something simple like an asterisk?

Again can't yet see the useability of this, but the more that we can make it evident to users that some Groups may be Child/Parents of others the more Contacts are likely to be added to the right ones ;-)

We currently working on a widget to simplify this process check http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3268

You can also see that widget on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/search?reset=1, its not yet complete.

Thanks. Wasn't quite clear if the widget will have a tickbox for a parent group that will cause it to expand and show all Child groups or not. Again, anything that can help convey that a Group is a Child (c) or Parent (p) would be helpful.

In widget on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/search?reset=1, child groups come under their parent, so you can easily distinguish between child and parent.

Ah ha - added a Child Group to one of these and hey presto it has a + and expands. Looks good. Thanks.

But when I select a child group it selects the Parent. Not what I expected. Other way round yes, but not child causing parent to be included. Guess that may be why you say it is still being worked on ;-)

I am thinking about when one is just looking at the Manage Group screen.

And in terms of the widget, will that be used on the Adv Search and on the contacts Groups Tab 'Add to a Group'?

Oh yes, make sense to me. Can you file an issue for this.

We are still experimenting with this widget, so we fine tune it, may be we will add it to other places.
