Duplicate rules being applied on Profiles and imports
September 08, 2008, 02:51:37 am
Hi - not super clear to me how one specifies the rules that get applied say, when applying 'duplicate checking' when a profile is being filled out, or during an import.

The "Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts" looks well set up for doing merges etc, but how do you specify which is applied in the above situations? Cheers

Current you cannot specify "duplicate checking" for actions, like profile or import.

You can define rules for contact types. check http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/deduperules?reset=1

So this rules will be used during profile and import depending on type of contact.

Hi Kurund. Sorry that still isn't clear but maybe I have got rusty on the language - I am talking about the Contact Matching. In 2.0 I can specify what rules apply when you import or use Drupal matching
Quote
The Contact Matching Rule is used to determine when a new Drupal User record should be matched and linked to an existing CiviCRM contact record. It is also used to alert you of a matching Individual contact record when you create a new Individual. Finally, contact Import uses this rule to determine whether a row in your import file is a duplicate of an existing record.
I knew you were shifting to a much better 'merge' system but presumed we would still be able to specify the rules to be applied when doing an import.

Hey Peter:

In v2.1, rules that are specified on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/deduperules?reset=1, will be used during Import and Profile. So if you are Importing Contact of type Individual, then Individual rule will be applied during import.

However if you want to an ability to select particular rule during import, there is something in v2.2 road map.

Thanks Kurund. So it is the strict rule that is applied, rather than the fuzzy one?

For both Profile and Import, we use "Strict" rule.
