Google Mapping Issues
September 09, 2008, 07:32:11 pm
I'm sure it's probably a setup issue, but here's what I'm seeing...

1) When I access an Event page and click on "map this location", then click on the pin, then click on the event hyperlink, I'm re-directed to a test drive page...huh???

2) This is probably a google issue, but when I click on the pin, shouldn't I be able to get directions TO the event??? It lists the address of the event as HOME and gives me a dialog box "Get directions TO:", but, logically, shouldn't I be able to get directions to there by entering where I'm coming FROM? Or do I just not understand the functionality?

3) Sometimes (and I'm having trouble reproducing this), it tells me my google key is invalid for the site I'm on...I thought maybe there was some confusion as to whether it was being called from http:// or https://, so I changed it back and forth, and sometimes still get the error...it is now set at http:// in my google key.

4) I've also seen it where, at the top of the map where it links "Event Info" it will sometimes take me to my home page, and not to the Event Info page...?

I've been up tooo long.....

thanks for any insight!

Here where do you expect the link to point to ? Event info page (which you can get redirected to by clicking done button) ?

Of course you can swap the direction / follow reverse-dir on direction-map page, but i also agree 'FROM' makes more sense there.

I guess this also depends on what url you provided while registering for the key. Not sure civicrm-code can do anything here.

I couldn't locate this link. Can you try replicate it on demo.

One more ques - the setup info shows you using CiviCRM v2.1 /w Joomla 1.0.15. Is that correct or just a mistake ?

Sorry, Deepak...just a mistake on the version...it's 2.0.5.

Having trouble reproducing anything this morning...Google Maps seems to have totally flaked out on me...can't get a map at all, saying variable GMap2 is undefined...

Anyway...

OK...I can live with all the issues except the first one...perhaps you misunderstand; From the front-end, NO ONE should be directed to a Test-Drive Page - it's my live page, not a test from the back-end.

When you click the pin, and the bubble pops up w/ the Event hyperlink, that hyperlink SHOULD take you to the Event Page regardless of whether the Done button does or not...

Thanks!

1) (linking to test-drive) is definitely a bug. Issue filed and fixed: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3528

2) For both contact location and event location, it really does make more sense to offer users the ability to get directions FROM a place of their choosing TO the event or contact address. Really not sure why no-one caught and corrected this before now??

Issue filed and fixed: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3529

Thanks, Dave...

Will there be a patch to fix the first issue, or can you tell me where to make the change (I know it's a simple change, just don't know where to look...).

I can't believe no one took issue with the directions bubble, either...it really makes NO sense...

Thanks for your help!
