Import Sort Names, Displayed Names, Contact Type
September 11, 2008, 03:11:29 pm
I have about 14,000 contacts to import from a csv file... After reviewing the online documentation I created a few contacts manually, then I exported them to csv to check the format of the fields.

I noticed from the csv export that CiviCRM creates fields such as Displayed Name and Sort Name from other related fields... do we need to include these fields as part of the import or the MySQL generates them automatically?

Also, I just want to verify that I should import first all the Contact Type=Organization information and then import the contact type=Individual (right?)

Thanks for the help... this software is just the best open source for any non-profit organization

Right. Display Name and Sort Name we will automatically calculated.

Yes. One Contact type at a time.

Well... I am happy to report that I was able to migrate the 9,800 contacts and 3,500 companies...  :D

Now I just need to play around with all the functions before we go live!

Thnks
