Incorrect from e-mail address when sending e-mail

Installed CiviCRM a couple days ago, and appear to have it up and running. I've created custom fields, entered in a few dozen individual records, and am able to search for specific records based on those custom fields.

The issue that I've now seen is when I try to send e-mail from within CiviCRM. The "From:" address on the e-mail screen isn't set to my e-mail address, but that of a (seemingly random) CiviCRM contact. What's worse, it doesn't appear that I can override this, so that any e-mail sent from within CiviCRM will appear to have come from someone other than me.

Anything obvious come to mind that I've overlooked?

I can't reproduce this on the demo; email from name/address comes from the user you are logged in as....

Likewise. We are running 2.1 beta 4 and I have the same experience as emilyf.

There were a few bugs we noticed in 2.1 when doing the QA for this (triggered by the forum post). These are now fixed in 2.1: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3539

With regard to rklau's specific issue, can you clear your session (truncate sessions in drupal db) and see if it repeats

also you can set various system wide options for from address here:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/options/from_email_address?group=from_email_address&reset=1

I'm trying to customize the from e-mail address to be our organization's general mailbox (not my personal one) when sending e-mails. How can I do this? I'm using CiviCRM standalone.

Tried adapting that link from the demo install, but I can't find an "admin" folder in my installation.

My base URL is http://recycleabike.org/crm/standalone/index.php?

We have done some functionality enhancement for "from email address" in v2.2
corresponding issue is here : http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3552

Adding ?q=civicrm/admin to the above URL should get you to the Administration Control Panel. You should also have a link to that in your menu (left sidebar) and on the CiviCRM home page. From their, find "From Email Address" under Option Lists section.
