What's the status on civireport - seems like no news for a year and no real activity.

Reports are great selling points and I really miss them when showing a CiviCRM demo. Therefore I am looking at different possibilities but I don't want to duplicate efforts if civireport is still active.

Regards

Rob

Custom search is a different alternative to usign BIRT and the java stack. Not too many folks in the community have picked up on CiviReport. At this stage we'd probably consider it on life support :(

We're currently in discussions with a couple of organisations for whom the reporting limitations are a real sticking point so we'd really like to make some progress on this and are prepared to contribute to make this happen, since we know it's a feature that some existing clients also want more of. One of the limitations is that through the standard searches everything works on contacts so searches for information purely on activities by area for example are not possible. We'll be constructing some custom searches to cover this kind of thing, but will it be possible at some to extend the search builder to allow this kind of search?

Dave - We are currently developing "phase 1" of CiviCase for case management - to be launched with the 2.2 release (scheduled for Q1 2009). We will be beefing up the ability to search on / list activity records in the context of Cases. Depending on time and resources, these enhancements might also be implemented for activity search / listings outside of the CiviCase component. If not, we'd be happy to give your team some pointers in getting this functionality generalized.

You can get a picture of where things are headed from these documents:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCase+-+Requirements
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCase+-+Phase+1+Scope+of+Work

... and this simple mockup of a "View Case" screen which includes Activities search / filter:
http://mockups.dev.civicrm.org/civicase/ViewCase.html

Sharing a bit more about your clients' requirements / the custom searches you are planning on building would also be helpful.

I've been looking at the Case stuff and it looks great: it's something that a couple of our clients in the UK voluntary sector will welcome.

The reporting requirements that are not currently met are mostly around this area. They are generally looking for the ability to produce reports such as how many activities of type x were carried out in this period with disregard for which contacts were involved as in some instances they just need the numbers and types of interventions. We have a few clients with similar requirements so we may well be able to help with getting this generalised although we're pretty busy for the next couple of months.

We've also got a more complex situation under discussion in which we're hoping to have Civi chosen as a solution over a  proprietary system which I've mentioned on this post http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=4400 and the reporting required there will be to look at activities, cases, grants and memberships without all the contacts behind those things. This is complicated by the requirement to have some kind of multi-organisation use of the system and we'd be hoping to sponsor this in 2.3. I'll try to get a clear list of searches on here.

My name is Leo D'Angelo.  I'm the CTO for MPower.  As some of you may know we have recently taken our window's product open source.  What most of you probably don't know is that we are about to release a new reporting solution for MPower (currently code named clementine) that is built on jasperserver.  The nice (IMHO) thing about our new solution is that it is completely database independent (we have run it on MySQL, SQL Server and Oracle) as well as schema independent.  We have run it on Sugar, MPower, Tangarine (our new SAS product).  All of mpower's software is available under the GPL.  I would be happy to work on integrating this solution with CiviCRM's schema.

More information on Clementine can be found here:

http://www.mpoweropen.com/orange/reporting.shtml
http://www.mpoweropen.com/orange/videos.shtml

If there is sufficient interest in using this solution with CiviCRM (and the rest of the Civi solutions) I will put our engineers on integrating the two products together.

I'd be interested to know some more about this than I can get from the video presentations which seem to be largely marketing. For example what would be involved in getting it to work with CiviCRM? Is there a demo available?

I'd echo davem's comments. And add that of course the interest will also be in what the 'nominal' fee might look like.

First off we charge for support.  Our software is free. So if no support is required then no fee will need to be paid.  Support will be provided for something like 200.00 annually per organization.

The product is going to be released in beta late november.  As soon as it is available I will be sure to post information here.

The product uses a data dictionary that tells the report 'wizard' where to get it's data, etc..  To get Clementine to work on CiviCRM we would need to populate the data dictionary to reflect CiviCRM's schema.  Currently it can run reports off of tables, views and stored procedures (parameterless).  We are working on getting paramaters working on stored procs.
