Check Box for removal of custom fields
June 22, 2007, 05:52:06 am
Understanding the importance of being double prompted for removal of a custom field, I can't help but notice how much time is need to remove custom fields that are no longer used.  I had 30 that needed to be removed and it took me quite some time.  At first I thought it was the fact that I was being double prompted to ensure I really wanted to delete it, but that was justified because the data that is part of the field would be lost too.  So, my solution to this is simple.  Add a check box next to each custom field.  The user will have to click the box next to each custom field they wish to remove.  They should still receive the pop up box, but something different on the final confirmation page.  A list of checked items should come up for confirmation for removal.

I'm curious about how many folks have experienced this as a usability issue. How often to people need to delete large numbers of custom fields from their configurations? Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

I experienced the same issue.  I had about 20 custom fields and it is a bit tedious to have to delete them individually.

I found this an issue on a shared server that did not have enough memory set aside and I ran into memory errors.  This is why I had to remove so many.  With groups that use a shared server, this would be a benefit.
