Understanding CRM-2963
September 15, 2008, 01:32:58 pm
Greetings,

I am building a site that plans to take advantage of the permissioning of relationships between contacts. From what I can tell

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-2963

is implemented in the beta, but user A, while able to /view/ a user B for which he is permissioned, is seemingly unable to edit or alter user B in anyway. I'm wondering if it's possible this patch isn't fully implemented, or if I'm missing some obvious permission issue somewhere.

Thanks,

Jonathan

The link for editing "user B" is displayed in "user A" Contact Dashboard.

I've given the public demo user (Janet Demouser) a permissioned relationship with an organization (Magic Bus) on the demo. If you login to:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org (user = demo, pw = demo)

.... and then go to the Contact Dashboard

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/user?reset=1

You'll see a section at the bottom listing My Contacts / Organizations - with a link to an Edit form.

Dave's link isn't working for me but I've just managed to install 2.1 - this seems like a great feature and I'm excited about playing around with the new version. Is it possible to use the permissioned relationship to edit fields outside of the hard-coded form linked to from the dashboard? In particular, can a permissioned user edit custom fields for an organization?
Cheers,
Michael

Currently (and as per spec) permissioned user can only edit - name+phone+email+location fields, via edit link visible on user's dashboard.

Thanks for the reply Deepak. I chatted w/ Lobo today on irc and he said this feature (using profiles for permissioned user updates of org. info)  will eventually be implemented.

Funding development sooner would be roughly $3-5k. If anyone else is interested feel free to respond here or PM me.
