My payment processor keeps vanishing

Hi all. I've inherited a custom payment processor which is causing me problems, but I have no idea where the source of my problems is.

On Contributions > Title and Settings I can set the processor successfully. It sticks there when I save and return. All is good.

If I then go and try the Test-Drive page, sometimes it works successfully (from the Civi side at least) but on others I get an unrecoverable error because I have no processor set. Go back to Title and Settings and the processor has been deselected.

Can anyone give me any hints as to where to start debugging this problem?

What errors do you get ?  Have you correctly set live account details.
