Allow member to update multi-lingual fields
September 16, 2008, 05:45:16 am
In CiviCRM 2.1 beta in a multilingual installation, I can store more than one version of a contact's first and last names.  I would be nice if for anyone who is allowed to update their own contact info, also be allowed to update multi-lingual versions of their name.   Also, I would like to be able to collect people's mult-lingual names with a profile during a sign-up process.

In my case, I would like to use CiviCRM for my synagogue. Everyone has a English name and a Hebrew name. Currently in CiviCRM 2.1 beta, I can turn on both Hebrew and English. Then I can can use the admin area to enter people's English and Hebrew names. But, I cannot collect both names using a profile on a CiviEvent or CiviContribution page.  Also the person who is authorized to update their own contact listing in the front end, cannot view or update their Hebrew name.  In all these cases, the visitor to the website would be using English as their primary language.

I agree this is a sensible feature. Please file a feature request in our issue tracker (much like you did for CRM-3548).
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
