How to eliminate links on the View page of a Profile?
September 17, 2008, 09:55:04 am
Hi by default CiviCRM puts links on every field on the View page of a Profile.

For example:
http://www.soilscience.info/civicrm/profile/view?reset=1&id=137&gid=9

Unfortunately most of these links don't appear to actually do much that is useful, although 1 or 2 (like state) do a interesting sort function.  I want to remove most if not all of the links on the fields from this page.  Ideally I would like to leave the link to "Home URL" field but that may be too much to ask.

/CRM/Profile/Page/View.tpl doesn't provide any way to remove the links.  Which file would I hack?

Furthermore, is there a way future versions of CiviCRM could improve the situation by having optional links on the fields like "Searchable" and "In Selector" add an option like "View link"?  Links that go nowhere, or sort by Last Name (and return 1 result), tend to have limited usefulness and confuse the layman when clicked.

If you have profile field with visibility setting "Public User Pages and Listings", then we link the field. So if you don't want to link the field change visibility to "Public User Pages".

And it isn't so much that the links don't do anything, as link to others with the same data - so if i click on YES next to Soil Scientist I get to see all the Soil Scientist - just in case that is a feature you do want to keep.

Thanks for the info guys.

I think what I was confused by was the difference between:

"Public User Pages" and "Public User Pages and Listings".

It wasn't clear to me at all that "Public User Pages and Listings" should only be used when you want a field to be Searchable and this will also mean links on the View page.     That fixed the issue.  Any field I don't want to be a link on the View page is now "Public User Pages".
