When going 2.0 to 2.1 how can we update the Current Employer
September 18, 2008, 02:27:46 am
Hi - just wondering, when we come to do an upgrade on a site that has a lot of Employer/Employee relations set up. How will the upgrade deal with the Current Employer field. In 2.0 it is a ?flat/static? field (not sure what terms you use) whereas in 2.1 it operates as a 'search and find' tool to make a real link to the organisation (and in doing so to set up the Relationship).

Will this all happen automagically, or, having upgraded will we have to do something such as running a Cron job, or exporting and re-importing the field?

And will a fresh import, when one imports the Org first, then the Employee, set the Current Employer field up properly? cheers

Hi,

If we talk about the same stuff, it was already stored as a relationship (check to see if there is a relation)

So all the employers should stay the way they where, but displayed on the main tab with a link to the organisation record. Happiness!

Hey Xav

so, if we do the upgrade, and then change the name of the Organisation, will that change automatically show in the name that is displayed in the Current Employer field - which it clearly couldn't do in 2.0.

1. In 2.1 we've cached the organization  name in the organization_name field of the individual contact to improve performance and queries

2. I'm pretty sure the upgrade script does not go in and handle this. Contributions for a standalone script to fix your db would be great

3. when you change an organization name, the code also changes any cached values

3. when you change / add a employer/employee relationship, the code does not do anything (this is a bug and is scheduled for a 2.2 fix)

Won't be trying this for a couple of weeks, and I suspect I may just look at export/reimport in case that is a useable workaround. Meanwhile ...

Can you clarify what the code 'should' do in this situation so when I spot something odd I don't go posting more posts unnecessarily. cheers
