Really Basic Question - I feel silly
September 19, 2008, 01:42:28 pm
I have CiviCRM installed on Joomla 1.5 and we want to use it as a CRM for the board members to use when talking to potential doners. I cant figure out how to give the logged in board member a view, like a dashboard, which would allow them to create new consituents, modify existing ones, etc.

What am I missing?

I did add a menu item to link to the com_civicrm and that comes up with a - you are not a member of any groups. So I created a group called board members and added some users to it, now it just lists that one group and has an unsubscribe link.

See - maybe I misunderstand what CiviCRM is supposed to do.

HELP!
Thanks,
Paul.

The full functionality is really in the back end. Perhaps you could change board members to "managers" in joomla so they could access you back end?

Eeek - really?

Thanks for the quick answer - but just so I am sure - I have to give my board members access to the Joomla Admin? Is that right?

Thanks,
Paul.

That is my understanding.  If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else will chime in.  ;)  The mech. for exposing data to the front end is profiles.  I don't believe that one can create new contacts or edit any data other than one's own from the front end.

This is stickier in Joomla at the moment because we have very limited ACL in Joomla.  So I suggested the manager role because it is the least privileged role with admin or "back end" access.

Have a look at these sections in the documentation,  Maybe I've missed something because I'm still expanding front end functionality on my own site:

minor clarification: you can create new contacts using profile (using the url: task=civicrm/profile/create)
