Printing receipts in CiviCRM

In CiviContribute, have buttons for "Email Receipt" and "Print Receipt". For printing receipt, allow receipt layout format and image resource to be specified in xml. Allow receipt reprints for people who lost their receipts.

Allow receipt cancellation for cases where donors decided to retract contribution due to unforeseen circumstances.

Version 1.8 includes functionality to generate receipts for offline contributions using a customizable template.

Contributions can be marked "cancelled" and a cancel reason can be entered. What additional functionality are you looking for in this area?

Hi Dave,

Sorry was in a hurry when started posting. First i must compliment it's an absolutely wonderful work the CiviCRM team has done. I am a volunteer trying to use CiviCRM for a social welfare society. Your work is going to help a lot of unfortunate people we volunteers are serving by first lessening our administrative burden of manual record keeping.

Receipt printing is crucial to us as our online and offline donors need it for tax exemptions.
I was suggesting if the team could kindly add receipt printing and handling features :

1. Generate running receipt numbers with user specifiable receipt number format

2. Print receipts and trigger a printer selection screen or print to pdf

3. Track the number of times the same receipt was requested for re-print and date of reprint

4. Print the word "Re-print" for those re-printed receipts

5. Print name of person and locaton (eg: location or org name in CiviCRM) issuing receipt

6. Allow different receipt formats for receipts printed from different locations

7. Receipt layouts can be designed in Joomla using TinyMCE or similar WYSIWYG editors

8. Cancellation of receipts will reverse or negate the donation amount

I know this sounds too much to ask for considering you guys are doing this out of your own free time. I am not a good coder but I'm trying to learn from your code. And hope one day I can help.

Thanks a lot guys !

Hi - Thanks for the nice feedback.

With regard to your wish list - CiviCRM currently handles #8 (cancel donation "negates" the donation amount in the calculated total for each contact). The other items in your list haven't come up as general requests so far - so I suspect they are a bit too specific to be included in CiviCRM. However, if you are able to hire some technical assistance - they may be able to handle some of the functionality with custom "reports" using the open-source reporting tool that we are integrating for 1.8.

Hi Dave,

I suspect this receipt printing list of requirements might be common to some systems eg: shopping carts ?. Would you have any experience on VirtueMart ? I could take a look at those coding and see how it fits in CiviCRM.

I'm also looking for more receipt/thank you functionality, and I have a simple suggestion.

It would help me greatly if I could search for contributions with "Thank-you date not set" (which i can currently do), then export (also no problem), and then mark the Thank-you date as sent for all found contributions (don't currently have this functionality).  Currently, I don't use the receipt or thank-you functionality in CiviCRM at all, since I handle them in batches.  I end up exporting them to another database to print letters, and this database allows me to batch mark the thank-yous as sent.  If I could could mark thank-yous as sent in CiviCRM without having to opening each of the 150 or so contribution records each month, it would be perfect -- I could just export the contributions to Excel and merge them into letters in Word.

My organization promotes mixed-use, walkable urban communities as the sustainable future of development -- thank you for supporting our work with quality technology solutions!

The team solved the last one too! You have two choices:

In the actions drop down menu, there is a "Batch update via profile" functionality. Create a profile with the thank you field, search your contributions each month, then select batch update via profile from the actions drop down, and update everything with a single click of save.

In your use case, since you are exporting first, you might want to put in a feature request that import contributions behaves the same way as import contacts, allowing you to update existing data in the database.
