Online Membership Duplicate Entries

Hypothetical situation that I see will occur.

The question that has been brought forth is that in order to track the members contibutions an account will be made for them in the back end for their donation by the staff.  What happens when the member wants to access the website and possibly give online in the future?

Will this make a duplicate entry and how is that handled?

For Online Contributions, CiviCRM using your configured Duplicate Matching rules to attempt to find an existing contact in the database and link the contribution to that contact. The default configuration is match on First Name + Last Name + Email Address.

You might want to "try this out" on your install and see how it works with some test contributions. (Keep in mind that test contributions are only "visible" using "Find Contributions" in the CiviContribute menu and checking the "Test Contributions" checkbox.)
